NQ weather
« on: May 10, 2013, 07:50:32 PM »
Getting close to the end of our second week in Lucinda and we have had 3 continuous days of rain and wind. Now I can handle rain OK, and sometimes I can even handle wind as long as I'm not trying to put up a tarp. But together they have a tendency to push me ever closer to the looney bin. There may be hardier men than me who will venture out in these conditions but not I. No inclement weather means sitting back at camp reading a book or writing cr@p like this on a fishing website. My wife even got me onto Facebook, but I'm not a huge fan, nobody on there talks about fishing. The casting arm gets twitchier by the minute, and I'm developing a tic in one eye that scares people. Trying to use a baitcaster in these conditions is only going to end in tears, and the Minn Kota is working overtime trying to hold the boat in position. My wife has caught a few Bream on bait and I'm thinking I didn't come all this way to catch bloody Bream. AAgh! MY most used website is now Bureau Of Meteorology.

A watched pot never boils JD. Leave the BOM and farcebook alone and go do something non-fishing until you get a break. Maybe a bit of sight seeing?

I've had the same of long planned trips, it drive you bananas.........  :walkplank

You might be right Gary, Wallaman Falls should be working well at the moment. And there's always the Sweetwater over that way.

Yeah check Stones Crossing on the way up (to wallamn Falls), the sooties (and even the odd sweetwater barra) will co-operate even if the weathers not that flash!

Soon enough Mate. Wind will be dropping off around Tuesday and rain is backing off now. Tully should be alright on thursday for us but I reckon the channel will be good all next week. Even a pretty good chance of going a bit wider too later in the week.

I don't know about locally here at Lucinda Craig but they had 340ml in the catchment about the Tully, but it's falling at the moment Brett and I are going to fish it on Thursday. The Herbert is very discoloured now and where we went today up near Broadwater all the creeks were up. Jim I've been to Stones but haven't fished it yet, might be worth a shot. We also looked at the Dalrymple. It was moving pretty well but still clear up top. Further down just before it joined Herbert it was pretty grubby.
Cheers
John

Thanks Brett I'll settle for the channel and Haycock Island. There's been a fishing comp here Friday and Saturday all C&R and a couple of blokes said they were doing it very tough. One of them was Tackle store owner from Townsville and knows what he's doing. All day today all they could get was a couple of small Barra and a Fingermark. They went though about 120litres of fuel over 2 days so they got around a bit. looking forward to Thursday.
Cheers,
John

How long you up for mate?

If you have some light spin gear I could maybe point you in the direction of some likely streams as you head back to TSV (that will include some camping as well if your boss is up for it).  Unfortunately I can't help much re hinchinbrook.  But the northern end will be better at the moment, and if you can find some nice smallish creeks there may be a nice jack or three hanging off a snag waiting for you.

It's a tough place to fish at the best of times, so good luck.

THanks Dave, I've pulled Jcks up in the Herbert near Halifax before so I might give it another go. Some of the other creeks I've fished along the channel are probably a bit shallow at the moment, there's some wierd tides going on down here. If all else fails there's always the fresh stuff.

Agree with the tides mate.

We've just switched over to smaller tides during the day again with the larger runs at night.

Good luck.
