Post by: HookedOnTheodore on October 03, 2011, 08:47:36 PM
Event Details

The Dawson River Corporate Saratoga Classic will be held from November 10th to 13th and has been created to support the community surrounding Theodore in Queensland after the devastating floods and to provide an exciting corporate team building event. The event will be held on the Dawson River surrounding Theodore.

2011 will mark the inaugural event with a vision to hold the competition annually.

Target Species

Saratoga (Scleropages leichardti) is a freshwater bony fish native to Australia.
S. leichardti is a long-bodied fish with large scales, large pectoral fins, and small paired barbels on its lower jaw. Each scale on its dark colored body has a red or pink spot. Saratoga are known for their aggressive surface feeding and make for an exciting target species. They can be caught using bait or lures and given their strength and agility Saratoga are often sought by fly enthusiasts.

Event Classes

Three classes will be defined for the event. The classes are:

Judging & Winner Selection

As the Dawson River Corporate Saratoga Classic is a team event, daily winners will be determined by total fish length.

The final winners of the event will be determined by the total fish length over the 3 fishing days.

Random length daily prizes will also be awarded.

Entry

Entry cost is $1,500 per team of 4 and includes three nights' accommodation at Tent City and facilities, breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, and all entertainment.

Sponsorship, participants, and funds all needed to make this event a success and to help the Theodore Community.

ALL funds raised go to the rebuilding and recovery of the people of Theodore.

Could you supply the competition rules please.
For example if a team of 4 fish must they all be in the one boat?
Perhaps a team of 2 would have attracted more competitors myself included as I would not be able to get a team of 4 to attend.
Is there a competition shirt, any line class etc

Hi Kev
Thanks for the good questions.  First and foremost this is a fundraising event to benefit the Theodore community.  We are promoting teams of four however will accept registrations of pairs or single attendees.  In this case you would be teamed up with the experienced and friendly locals.
The competition is based on the overall accumulative length caught on a daily basis for land based fishing or dinghy fishing, with both lure and fly.
If you have any ideas or suggestions to help us make the competition a success by all means let us know.
BCF are currently considering sponsoring t-shirts for the event, and we will know more next week.

Guys, Medical Health Finance have a team on board. Looking forward to getting out to Theodore and chasing some large Toga's.  One local told me that the Crocodile population was suffering because the Toga's were chasing them out of the water!!!  It's always good to go to an inaugural event and help them get it off the ground.  By the way this is the only Saratoga Fishing competition in Australia!

..............By the way this is the only Saratoga Fishing competition in Australia!

The Variety club Borumba Toga on Fly comp might argue that.  Ran just last Sunday and has been ran in October for years.

Irrespective, this comp seems for a good cause.
