Big W turns it on.
« on: March 20, 2013, 09:00:07 AM »
Well after many weeks of it just being too wet to go fishing, yesterday I got my first chance. The plan had been to fish the river fron Harpening Road but more water releases from Wivenhoe soon had me looking for an alternative.
Headed up the east side of Wivenhoe to discover a blown out & very dirty Wivenhoe. Not to be put off I launched the yak into Northbrook Creek & headed up stream out of the wind. Just upstrem from the bridge the water turned crystal clear & I had a very enjoyable paddle for about a K upstream. I saw plenty of turtles & gar , but no Bass.
Headed back down stream under the bridge & back into the wind & dirty water. After trolling downstrem for a while I stopped to clear some weed from the lure, cast back out & cranked my lure down to working depth when it was hammered by a good fish, this got the heart racing as I had not caught a Bass for so long. After a fairly sluggish fight a nice fish came to the net. The next two casts also resulted in fish, but I lost the third fish just short of the net. The wind was blowing quite hard & I had to paddle back accross the bay after each fish. Spent the next hour catching & releasing about fifteen fish all in the 45 to 50 cm range, lost about another half dozen. Fish were caught on a variety of lures, hard bodies soft plastics & spinnerbaits. Best session I have had for a long time & so good to see our stocking efforts are working.

Cheers Andrew

A great report Andrew. If there is bass up north brook creek, they will be up Kipper/Branch Creeks I'm guessing.

Did you get anything up the Bremer?

No, caught nothing, but I am sure they are there. Was exploring down stream from the seven mile, very hard going & I have never seen so many mozzies in my life.

Cheers Andrew
