Cressbrook Dam closed to the public for another week Press Release - Towoomba Regional Council - 16 Feb 2012

Cressbrook Dam will remain closed to all public access for another week.

Toowoomba Regional Council closed the dam to all recreational use on Tuesday (February 14) when water flowed over the spillway following rain in the catchment.

Council is following its Emergency Action Plan Cressbrook Dam and Perseverance Dam, which prohibits all public access when water over the spillway at Cressbrook Dam exceeds 100mm.

On Thursday, February 16, water was spilling over by 260mm.

Water also is spilling from Perseverance Dam, which flows into Lake Cressbrook.

Council is taking all precautions to ensure public safety and has advised downstream residents and relevant authorities.

Vehicle access is closed at Cressbrook Gorge.

Cressbrook Dam still closed to the public - Toowoomba Regional Council press release

Cressbrook Dam remains closed to all public access this weekend (March 3 and 4).

The water level has not dropped below the required safety standard to re-open the dam.

Toowoomba Regional Council is reviewing the situation daily and expects to open the dam for public recreation, conditions permitting, early next week.

Cressbrook Dam was closed to all recreational users in mid February when water flowed over the spillway following rain in the catchment.

Council activated requirements of its Emergency Action Plan Cressbrook Dam and Perseverance Dam, which prohibits all public access when water over the spillway at Cressbrook Dam exceeds 100mm.

All recreational users can visit Loveday Cove at Cooby Dam.

Cooby Dam wall picnic area remains closed due to damage suffered during the 2011 flooding.

Perseverance Dam is closed for all water activities until further notice.

A little late getting this one up unfortunately. TRC, despite requests, seem reluctant to share info to external sources like Sweetwater Fishing, which can only help share relevant information to the general public in a timely manner. Perhaps this poor attitude will change over time. Ed.

Cressbrook Dam open to permitted users from Thursday (March 8)

Cressbrook Dam will be open for all permitted recreation activities from tomorrow (Thursday, March 8).

Water levels have fallen below the required safety standard allowing Toowoomba Regional Council to re-open the dam to the public.

Normal operating hours, 6am to 8pm, apply from tomorrow.

Rain periods resulting in significant inflows to the dam could see the safety standard exceeded.

Council regularly monitors water levels and will close the dam for recreational use if the safety standard is exceeded.

Recreational users can visit Loveday Cove at Cooby Dam.

Cooby Dam wall picnic area remains closed due to damage suffered during the 2011 flooding.

Perseverance Dam is closed to all water activities until further notice.
