Brisbane River 20 October

Went with a group trip doing a section of Brisbane River from Savages Crossing to Burtons Bridge.

The river looks quite good, clear water, low to medium flow, no hyacinth noted.

Was more a social trip than a fishing trip but a few took a rod along. I think everyone who did take a rod caught bass. Being a bit spread out along the river I didn't get to see most, but there were alot caught, I'm not aware of any that made 50cm.

Saw several lungfish rolling about, and the odd mullet was jumping.

I scored a few average bass, then had a green speckled bass hit a spinnerbait 3 times as it followed right to my kayak before taking off. I lost a lure, leader and some line to a snag, so borrowed some leader from another fellow. Didn't fish for a while and very half heartedly dropped a spinner bait into a mid stream snag while I drifted past it. Counted to 5 and started to lift the rod when it took off back in the direction of the snag....this was a serious fish. I dropped the thumb onto the spool to slow this fish a bit and being used to the 15lb Penn 10x I had been using, the end of this leader got shredded and the fish now has some jewelery. That's fishing. What it was, I don't know. But it had some power.

Anyhow, a great day on the river, great weather, mede some new friends and good to touch base with some of my home water, and a BBQ at the end of it was great. Appreciate the invite.  :thumbsup

Some video below of a couple of bass caught by some of the other fellas on the trip.

Unfortunately no. You'd end up in a world of hurt trying.

I've paddled that section in a bit over 2 hours (no fishing).

Average trip with a bit of fishing in the better looking spots is 5-6 hours.

Hire a canoe?

Where would be the best spot for to go in my boat, had a look on weekend at burtons bridge, i can easily put in there, and was thinking of heading to the right up river towards the hills crossing area

hi chefany, up from burtons is a very quick flowing set of rapids where i rolled over in the green kayak in the vid and is fairly narrow with fallen trees on both sides so i doubt you'll safely get up with the boat....
The trip down from savages was awesome for my first experience kayaking and would recommend it to any newby with a kayak with thanks to fitzy and the guys at charltons. there was some good shady structure that we targeted and we were rewarded with a few good bass on smaller spinner baits. also found its harder to land a bass in a kayak when they drag you into the structure :)

Chris.
