Title: Look who's in the rustwater (besides me)...
Post by: Jim_Tait on August 21, 2013, 11:39:42 AM
In earlier days I used to hang up my sweetwater fishing gear through the Winter doldrums, but in recent years I've been spending some very enjoyable time fishing local estuaries in Winter - flathead, school jew on lures, bream, tailor and even the odd salmon... yesterday I went out to score a jewie on the change of the tide (day either side of full or black moon)  in a pet hole (successful) - plus scored flathead and tailor (all on soft plastics) - while bouncing a soft plastic through a deep hole I got a gentle take that turned into a line scorching run,.. decent big jewie I thought - yahoo - then bang! busted! - must of been line weak spot from earlier snag encounter - so sobbing about the loss of the fish I retied (cause where there's one there's more) - and dropped it back in the hole - this time as I was bringing the lure up bang again, same line scorching run.. but it was a decent bass (~45cm) that came into sight - big belly full too - most likely eggs - quick photo and let her go... I'll look for her in the fresh in summer ;)

Jim, without identifying the location, was that well up the estuary or well into the salt.
Cheers mate,
John

Fair way up the estuary John but I was catching tailor at the site and the water was more salt than brackish
