Part of regulations re murray cod in SA.
"The Murray Cod catch and release season opened on 1 January and will run until 31 July. During this time it is illegal to lift any size Murray cod out of the water in South Australia and fishers must carefully extract or release the hook with the fish still submerged."
How applicable would this be in Qld?
There may be some exceptions but overall sounds like a good idea to me.

It will see a lot of Murray Cod accidently released with lip grippers attached to their mouths.

Not lifting the fish from the water is a good idea for Murray / Mary cod, not a good idea for barra due to the croc factor.
Fish can't swim away with lip grippers if people use the wrist lanyard.

Ok for barra in non crock waters and great for lungys. Maybe should only apply in the fresh.
Pity didnt find out about it till now as could have put in a submission to review.

We don't have any "Catch and Release" seasons in Queensland. Murray Cod have been totally protected since about 2009 in South Australia, they have just started a 6 month Catch and Release only season for them, the other 6 months is closed season.
Should Queensland look at Catch and Release seasons for any species?

I dont see the point, our closed seasons are breeding seasons or windows (coral reef fish), catch and release of breeding fish can have a negative impact on the breeding cycle. Perhaps if we had closed seasons for another reason, but we dont.
