Hey Folk,
I'm new to the forums and only recently just joined.. I come from Mackay spent my whole life fishing up there on and off tides etc. and moved to Toowoomba.. I recently opted on setting myself up with a kayak and fish finder to tackle rivers estuaries and dams.. But I have never fished fresh water in my life.. Ive tacked gt's, whitting blah blah so on and so forth but I need help with catching the fresh water species.. When do fresh water fish spawn are the the same as salt water do you catch more fish on a full moon like salt water.. Can someone shed some info and target spots that are hot within Toowoomba's surrounding rivers, dams even Brisbane spots'and good bait for fresh water fishing? :GoodPost)

You've got Cooby and Cressbrook Dams near Toowoomba. See the guys at Mullet Gut and they'll help you out with rigs and tips.

cooby dam is only 15 minute from town, yellow belly are on the bite lately, work deep diveing lures, vibes and spinner baits work along the edge from the sailing club to the dam wall, you never know your luck you could hook a niece cod, morning and afternoons are best time, best of luck

Toowoomba is a big change from Mackay when it comes to fishing, but it isn't all bad. If you don't mind a drive there are so many options within about 2 hrs of town. There are more than half a dozen stocked dams, a few rivers and the Gold Coast, Morton Bay & the Sunny coast are able to be done as a day trip. As Rick mentioned above Cooby has been fishing well for most of this year for Yellowbelly. Pop into one of the local tackle shops & they will be able to point you in the right direction on lures etc. I have spent the past 8 months trying as many of the different spots as I can and have had some great days with many fish in the boat on many occasions & I still have many more on the list.

does fly fishing work is there any gun fly fishing experts in the area?
-
I am no expert in this area but bass are an option for on fly. As the weather warms early morn and late afternoon around edges and weed you should find them. Cressbrook has bass but ATM it is fishing a little slow. I can't imagine you are using fly from the yak but I could be wrong.

Jeez, and I wrote the management plan, you'd think I'd know the stocked list off by heart, but I don't. Think its bass, Saratoga, MRCs, and possibly golden perch, not sure on the yellas, maybe we flicked the Murray Darling species all together. Someone will correct me...
But what i know is catchable there; bass, Saratoga and tilapia.
Cheers,

Bass, Saratoga, MRC, Golden Perch, Gar on the management plan.
