Tackle some fun this Easter school holidays
11 Apr 2014 - NSW DPI

Children interested in the wonderful world of fishing are encouraged to come along to one of the many fishing workshops hosted by Department of Primary Industries (DPI) this Easter school holidays.
DPI State Coordinator, Community Programs, Dee Payne, said a number of workshops are being held across the State for children aged 8 to 14 years, giving them a chance to learn the basics of recreational fishing.

“Children will have the opportunity to understand the importance of fishing safely and responsibly, while also following sustainable fishing practices and NSW rules and regulations,” Ms Payne said.

“Local DPI Fishcare Volunteers assist in the running of the workshops, and share their love and passion of fishing with the kids.”

The fishing workshop program is one of many initiatives implemented by the NSW Government using funds from the NSW Recreational Fishing Trusts to improve fishing opportunities across the State.

“Budding young anglers will learn essential fishing skills such as knots and rigs, baiting, casting, bag and size limits and fish handling for catch and release,” Ms Payne said.

“The workshop costs $40 per child and includes a rod and reel combination, shirt, hat, hooksafe, tackle box and show bag to take home.
“Each workshop will run from 10am to 2pm and are strictly limited to 25 participants, and bookings are essential.

“At the end of the day, our main goal is to demonstrate to children that fishing can be a pastime they can enjoy for a lifetime.”
