NOrth Queensland
« on: January 13, 2014, 02:14:04 PM »
I'm up in Mareeba for the next week visiting with my daughter and son in law plus 2. Son in law knows a few spots west of here so we'll be heading over to a river/creek that drains into the mighty Mitchell. Hoping for some Sooties and maybe a 'Toga, I'll let you all know what happens.

That sounds like fun.  Watch that humidity.  I was in Darwin last week, and it was like breathing water.

Hi Dale, it's not too bad up here on the tableland, but down in Cairns it's like you described. How's you go in Darwin?

Pretty quiet, but it was more of a tourist trip.  We helicoptered kin to the Daly and fished a couple of creeks on the worst tide of the year.  We got Barra, Bull Sharks and Powertails.  Awesome chopper trip though.

I love those things, it's the closest you can get to real flying these days. I was on Elsie Station once and had to photograph the station from the air. They laid on a Robinson 22 and we ended up travelling along the Roper with the skids about 4ft off the water's surface. Great stuff.
By the way you didn't do too bad considering the circumstances.

We were in a Robinson 44.  90 knots at 100 feet is good.
