Mildura Weir to resume operations
05 July 2013 - MDBA

Repairs on the Mildura Weir are nearly complete and work will begin next week to start reassembling it.

MDBA spokesman David Dreverman said the maintenance work by Goulburn-Murray Water had gone very well and would be completed slightly ahead of schedule.

"The work on the weir's concrete base was initially expected to take at least eight weeks however, given the success of the repair work, we can finish two to three weeks earlier," Mr Dreverman said.

"We also successfully used additional flows from upstream to keep salinity levels in the Sunraysia area below 350 EC units.

"We'd like to thank community members and boat users for their patience and understanding during this period while the essential works were completed."

Mr Dreverman said work on reassembling the weir, including reinstating the trestles would begin on Thursday 11 July, and water level would be back to normal by Tuesday 23 July.

Boat operators will have limited access to lock 11 from Friday 19. They are advised to contact the senior reservoir officer in advance on (03) 5023 1396 to check availability and to arrange a suitable time.

Forecasts of river flows and salinities continue to be available on the MDBA's website at www.mdba.gov.au/river-data/current-information-forecasts (http://www.mdba.gov.au/river-data/current-information-forecasts)
