Title: Hinze 15.06.13
Post by: Outcast on June 17, 2013, 08:56:59 AM
Did my first trip to Hinze on Sat arvo and gotta say what a magic spot, not knowing all that much about dams we spent most of the time exploring in and around the edges and boy there's some magic looking spots in amongst the timber and up the gullies. A couple of observations though, there is deep water right up to the banks in most places, no weed or lilly beds, no bait showing on the sounder and submerged timber all along the foreshores, all this made it hard to know where to fish so we just kept moving, in the end we only managed 1 fish each and they came from out in the middle (go figure) Gonna take some time to work that place out I think.
Cheers.

Odd you saw no bait there are usually clouds of barred grunter around the place.

I have not fished it since the wall upgrade was finished and water level rise.

I used to get the odd bass in the shallow bays but often founds schools hanging around 15ft of water but could never tempt any.

It would be a whole new ball game now there.

Thanks for posting

This time of year I reckon they would be schooling up in big numbers in the deeper water. I know in NPD, vibes or ice jigs have done well in the past on these schools but you could even try a spinner slug used for tailor or small tuna.

I was surprised at the lack of bait and fish showing on the sounder (gain up full tilt too) though we only worked the top end of the Nth arm so maybe we just missed them, still a pleasant way to spend an arvo.

I was there today using live shrimp. They took a while to find.
We first tried the submerged gullys upstream of the ramp opposite bass bay for only one so moved to the usual spots in 20 ft of water in amongst the trees opposite Ians island which were also not much good with only a couple of bass and tandans.
We moved back to the first spot and got onto a few. Whilst I was ripping them in on shrimp mate used sps and vibes for zilch. Ended up with 30 for the day.
 Cheers

All on shrimp but they are hitting lures also,
