Hinze Dam was reopened today after the 4 years of wall raising which started in January 2008
Both of the new ramps on eastern and western arms are now opened from 6am to 6pm.
The original pour of concrete which stopped well short of the existing water level has now been rectified with a further pour to the edge.
Attached pics were taken today on the new ramp at Larks Landing on the western arm, and was told the eastern ramp has had the same treatment but have not been over there to check.
Many more pics of the wall etc in this report on AKFF if interested

Thats a huge relief we wont have to use goat tracks anymore!! but watch the dam get overrun for a while with fishers.
Will the old temp ramps still be servicable ?

All Hinze needs now is to be on the SIP . :Hunting)

Great news Dodge.
Good on SEQ water for fixing the problem.

Steve while having a yarn to one of the rangers about 12 months ago, he said when the new ramps opened they would bull doze in place a closing barrier on all the other ramps except the new ones, so assume that remains the policy.
Also in regard to the ramp gates etc Rangers police between 6am to 6pm, and the night hours including open and close of gates is done by a security company
Worth while having a look at the ramps on www.Nearmap.com (http://www.Nearmap.com) [search Advancetown,Qld] free personal satellite pics better than Google Earth for main centres as it has regular updated images on the view and the dam latest is 9 Nov, 2011... the development of the ramps and dam can be followed from the earlier views and parking bays can be countered as well, east arm parking is more than west arm ....also has measurement function like GE.
Here is the wall http://www.nearmap.com/?ll=-28.052042,153.287559&z=16&t=k&nmd=20111109 (http://www.nearmap.com/?ll=-28.052042,153.287559&z=16&t=k&nmd=20111109)

Why, it's a pretty good dam as it is with it's own special stocking funds. The access permit fee goes directly to the stocking group.

I think they have been struggling of late, hopefully with the infrastructure now in place things will pick up for them.
-
I think its a rather special dam for people who do actually fish it because every tom dick and harry isnt there most of the time.

Thanks for the update Dodge. Funny how i was only pondering this last week as per my post on KFDU. Hopefully will be there on Saturday as they open the gates (probably with a few others)

Seems nothing has changed in regard to buying a Hinze fish permit with the re-opening of the dam again.
Took my wife over yesterday to show her the new set up and decided while there to find where the permits were sold in the new building and on inquiring at the information desk was told we are not selling them here at the dam.
Personally can see no reason why the kiosk also within this building could not be given the chance to sell permits as no one is going to drive back to town to buy a permit after already arriving at the dam itself.
So permits are still only sold at Nerang Disposals Camp and Fishing, Southport Fish and Dive Centre, Miami Bait and Tackle, and Doug Burts Tackle World

Do you have to have a seperate Hinze Dam Fishing Permit ?? as well as a SIP licence ?

SIP not applicable to Hinze.
You need the Hinze Fishing Permit....$40 annual or $5 week

Yeah, wish they would do something by mail order or online.
Day is buggered by the time you wait for one of them to open to get a permit. To far to travel just to buy a permit in advance.

Exactly my thoughts.

Had a good look for a sign last weekend saying you need a permit to fish at Hinze couldn't find any at either ramp or the visitors centre. Should become a SIP dam in my opinion
-
I just get a yearly one as I fish it a few times a year and probably more frequently now that new ramps are open. The western arm one is practically right at Ian Island.
Its only $40 and it all goes into stocking not like the SIP scheme where the Government creams off admin expenses.
Does anyone on Sweetwater own a local business that has extended trading hours and may be prepared to sell permits if so I have a contact point for the stocking assn. I think that they would be happy to hear from you
Cheers

Ray there is a 24 hour BP servo at the start of Gilston Rd, Nerang would be ideal for your suggestion if they could come to the party with the stocking group to sell permits
