Politics and the rights of fisho's
« on: December 18, 2010, 10:24:09 AM »
G'Day crew,
I've attached something that I put a bit of thought into regarding the erosion of our rights, and I'd like to hear your opinions. I have no doubt it will be interesting.
Cheers all,
John

fishing is not essential to life, it's much more important

Well said John,we are looked upon by the greens and other pollies just as you described,I've been writing letters to the QLD Labour govt for about 6 and 1/2 year about the potential of the sport fishery here in Hervy Bay with very little support and the only real support has come from Sunfish and it has all fallen on deaf ears,I've given up trying now.
The meeting about the Marine Parks and Fin fish bag limits was a perfect example of the apathy here in Hervy Bay and else where

That's why I believe in the rec licience if there is one we become stakeholders and it's the only way we WILL become UNITED and have a say in the fisheries without it WE ARE just individuals and have NO SAY.I made a comment in the other thread about that topic so wont go any further into it.
If you Dont Fight You Lose and sadly we are going to be on the end of a severe beating in the future.

Paul, I don't know what it takes to get rec fisho's off their bums. There are all too few of us who are willing to fight and far too many who are happy to let us. If we had been properly organised years back we would not have the rediculous situation that exists in Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay. One bloke said to me that "It'll be OK until after I'm gone, I won't care then." I'll bet his kids won't be happy though.
Cheers

If the government won’t rethink the funding of them we have to raise it ourselves and I believe the tackle and boating industry need to get involved as well. Think about it; no fishery, no sales, no business.

Really like this......  Gotta have numbers, money and big business behind the push.

QLD and NSW politics as well as federal is all about how much votes can I extract out of the public on an issue and also how much money is evolved with the deals they do.  Greens are no different, they wheel and deal for their own agendas to score their own points.

..... tisk tisk sea kittens......  I like some things the greens talk about and support but they do sound like a joke sometimes....

Geoff

p.s.  Nice work takrat like your stuff.

Thanks Geoff, I ran the idea past Fitzy before I posted it and he was pretty keen. I believe that if we don't start taking affirmative action right now pretty soon talking is all we'll be able to do. I'm happy to hear any and all ideas.
Cheers,
John
