You can only target them above the walls of the following Stocked impoundments:
Cressbrook, Hinze, Maroon, Moogerah, North Pine, Somerset and Wivenhoe dams and lakes Dyer (Bill Gunn Dam) and Clarendon.

On the North Side of Brisbane, that would make North Pine Dam the only spot.

Everywhere else they are a "no take" species.

You wont see one on NPD, (and you need an access permit and a SIP Permit) your only shot is Somerset up above the bridge at Villeneuve (Below the bridge you need a SIP permit). You can launch at the bridge (once again upstream so your not breaking any SEQ Water rules), you can of course then go back under the bridge to fish if you do have a SIP permit.

They have been stocked into North Pine Dam.
And you will become a member of a very elite club if you catch one there.
Cheers

Stocked lots, but only ever 1 caught I know of (and the PRFMA keep catch cards for ever) and a couple of others seen in fish rescues, never any caught. One of those dams they just dont take in.

Not a great deal of structure for them there unfortunately. Wivenhoe is almost as poor for structure as well, but has a little more rocky shorelines than Samsonvale.

Somerset
BTW - officially a SIP is required on Somerset to the top of FSL, which is up past Mary Smokes Creek and half way to Stoney Creek, approximately at Drapers. For want of a better landmark, we mostly say the bridge. I'd hate to see someone get a fine for not having a SIP license...

Video below starts a few km upstream of the bridge, you can see how far the lake goes from there....

2 on the catch cards a tiddler and a 90+, 1 upstream, 5 off the bank.
4 in fish rescues, recent one 85 ish went to Kurwongbah as it was closest.
Need to come to meetings more often  but then so do I  :-[

With so many locals trying to talk you out of North Pine Dam as an option, I think I"d be starting there.  Try to find an access point upstream of the Dam and keep paddling downstream until you see a "keep out" sign. ;)

In reality, leave the poor endangered Mary River Cod alone until they get their act together, and travel south to catch some Murray Cod.  Trust me, you wont be able to tell the difference.  The Severn, the Dumeresq, the Mole and a few others are easy travelling distance and well worth the trip.

No one is trying to steer anyone away from NPD, if you can find cod out there go for it, I would be glad to see tham being caught. I might just have to put a day aside soon and just go looking, but to busy catching bass and forkies at the moment. :youbeauty :youbeauty

Could be more. 5 that I have seen 2 were part of the hobbiest breeding program in 07 and 08 along with 1 Hinze fish and some  F1 fish grown out from one of the hatcheries.

I would be thinking of heading to the head waters of north pine like cedar creek and the pine way way above the dam in the mountains  ;) dayboro has a few crossings out the back to access with a yak. its crystal clear and looks very very cod like water. got me thinking of giving it a go myself now lol
