Early Morning Coastal Creek Session
« on: October 02, 2011, 06:05:32 PM »
Taking a couple of SW members Pat and Adam who are locals to the coast, encouraged by their passion to explore new ground within the region, we found ourselves on the water around 5.00am this morning.

Pat got a Tarpon that put on a good show and dropped another with Adam dropping a couple of Bass and landing a good sized one and a bream finding it's way upstream in the fresh.

Experiencing extremely clear creek water, the strikes from the Bass were very tentative resulting in quite a few missed opportunities for myself, but a great challenge all the same only getting one yak side. Spooking a few in the real skinny country watching them swim past 1 metre away and clearly encouraging them to take my lure on the surface when it was paused as they periodically hesitate to strike within very, very close proximity only the see them swim away was frustrating but still very enjoyable.

Here's a shot of the lone Bass that I tempted to take a lure. Adam and Pat may put up a few shots of the fish they also caught in time.

Cheers Dave

Yes I had a great time Dave a great stretch of water with so much potential - next time with a higher barometer and warmer conditions the place should really turn on. Enough room to cast the fly rod in places so must get the #4 weight in there and pin some of those tarpons extracting the bass with that wippy rod may be a different proposition  :o. Is that one of those grip cranks in the bass's mouth that you mentioned ? Once again thanks for sharing mate. Cheers Pat.

Running out Fitzy, there must have been a massive variance in tidal movement as it was the lowest I've seen the creek ever.

Are you up the coast this week and keen for a fish, today and tomorrow suit me best?

Dave
