World Fish Migration Day
Let there be fish! is an event planned for World Fish Migration Day on 24 May, at Lane Cove Weir in Sydney, starting at 10.00 am.

Bass Sydney; NSW Department of Primary Industries, Fisheries; NSW NPWS; Fish Habitat Network will combine efforts to highlight the migratory and habitat requirements of Australian native fish and showcasing the fishway that has been installed on Lane Cove Weir. A BBQ will follow with visits to the fishway and a habitat restoration site.

This event will showcase the fishway at Lane Cove Weir and provide information on the importance of good, healthy, functioning fish habitat to native fish and therefore its importance to recreational fishers, commercial fishers and the general community.

Talks will be given on fish migration, fishway design and the involvement of recreational fishers in monitoring fishway success at Lane Cove River. Members of Bass Sydney Fishing Club and the Friends of Lane Cove National Park will also talk of fish habitat improvement projects they have been involved with and why its important to them.

The importance of saltmarsh to fish and the links between fish habitat and the fish on our table will also be explored.

Talks may be preceded by a tree planting event and will be followed by short walks to inspect the fishway and nearby habitat restoration site, with a BBQ to informally end proceedings.
