G'day All. Sort of fishing report! Enjoy :thumbsup

2015 Lowrance Da$h 4 Ca$h Super Series

Another hotly contested “Lowrance Da$h 4 Ca$h Super Series” has been run and won on Lake Mulwala over the past weekend. 83 teams totaling 166 anglers from all parts of the country arrived with boats in tow to compete for the $11000 cash and prizes on offer.

The “Da$h 4 Ca$h Super Series” is contested over three separate sessions with the beauty of it being, if you have a bad few hours fishing, it all starts again from scratch in the next session. Saturday’s fishing comprised of two, four hour fishing sessions while Sunday morning was a quick fire three hour event. The aim of the game is for anglers to catch their Cod (legal size) as quick as possible, bring them back to the designated weigh point for measuring and release. They are then awarded points according to fish’s length and time of capture. Cash prizes are paid down to tenth place along with Lowrance products for the winning team.

Friday evening saw the traditional pre-event gathering at Lake Mulwala Fish Camp & Ski for many to have their once a year catch up, yak and a couple of coolies whilst talking tactics for the forthcoming weekend.

New rules were implemented because of the legal slot size of 55-75cm for Cod. Any fish measuring in excess of 75cm had to be photographed and then the photo "dashed" back in as it was a normal fish.

Wind made things a tad tricky for punters Saturday morning but all gathered excitedly in anticipation for the staggered shot gun start. 90hp and above powered boats were first to leave followed by the remainder. Over the 10yrs + of the D4$ is staggering to see the revolution and progression in boats with some beautiful outfits gracing the starting line. As quick as the starters gun sounded the big bangers with motors up to 250hp had cleared out on the rest. Within 25mins the first Cod was returned to scale, fittingly by team "Cod Express". After this things hotted up fish wise as a very steady procession of boats returned to measure their capture. Along with a snapped electric motor shaft, Leigh Roberts and Ian Kelly returned a photo of a beautiful 93cm cod. Unfortunately for the boys this was only good enough to secure them fifth spot as winners are decided by adding the scores of your teams two best fish from each session. Four other teams had secured a minimum of two legal's with only 4.39points separating them. Sneaking into third were Jamie Roberts and Brian Williamson with a 665mm and 650mm being their mornings effort. Second went to Chris Haley and Brendan Hawkes with a 650mm and 610mm respectively. Although returning two smaller Cod than those finishing behind them, the team "Big Peckers" Matt & Peter Pejkovic's 607mm & 583mm got them across the line as their fish were caught earlier and received greater time bonus's. A mere .73 points separated them at the top. $1500 cash and new Lowrance fish finder were their reward. In total 29 legal cod were captured during the morning session.

As the session completed the rain came down and sent everybody scurrying for cover with most retiring to the Ski Club for lunch. The rain stopped, the wind subsided and the sun came out making way for a very humid afternoon. With some new found enthusiasm mixed in with a bunch of new plans, teams hit the water again at 2pm. The lunch time storm seemed to have turned off the bite as action slowed. The highlight for the arvo session was team "Mulgee Flickers" returning with no fish onboard, instead armed with a photograph and a very big smile! Ivan and Jarryd Sirca had managed to land what Ivan described as his "fish of a lifetime" the measured an impressive 103cms. A great effort from Ivan but he knew another was needed to claim the cash. Only one team managed to land two legal's for the afternoon and that went to a very popular winner Col Hyland partnered by Kyle Dalrymple from team "Cols Fishing & Liver Adventures". Known more for his "off water" antics, is was great to see Col have a good afternoon under the watchful eye of Kyle. Their fish measured 615mm and 790mm comfortably securing them the victory, $2000 cash and new Lowrance fish finder. Simon Abernethy and Greg Crelin narrowly clinched third for an early return of a 608mm cod. In total 15 legal cod were captured during the arvo session.

A day or even a night is a long time in fishing and what a change it was Sunday morning. Absolutely perfect conditions greeted all who made it to the start line with some in worse condition than others thanks to an over exuberant Saturday night! Being only a three hour session, cod returned in a hurry was the order of the morning. Only 13 legal's were returned with mere minutes and millimeters separating those at the top. .24 of a point separated first from third whilst  could throw a blanket over the rest of the field. Nobody had a clue of who the winning team was going to be as the top three teams were assembled in front of all competitors. Russell Sanford and Simon Burke of JD/ Eddy Lures secured third with a nice 626mm cod earning them $500.  "Big Peckers" Matt & Peter Pejkovic's 603mm specimen helped them pip third by a mere .02 points and along the way putting $1000 in their pocket. This only left one team with an ecstatic Simon Abernethy and Greg Crelin of team "Big Daddy" being declared the winners. Simon's PB cod of 742mm was enough to get them over the line by the skin on their teeth and .22 points. Picking up a lazy $2500 cash plus the new Lowrance sounder for their mornings efforts made them two very happy boys. 13 cod were captured for the morning session.

All in all it was a great weekend with Lake Mulwala proving once again that it’s the premier cod fishery in the land. A big thanks to major sponsor Lowrance along with the Mulwala Football Netball Club and Lake Mulwala Fish Camp & Ski. If you have not fished a "Dash" before lock it in to your diary for next year for Feb 20 & 21.

Cheers TB
