I am more than biased, but I'll throw in my 2 cents worth. For kayaks make sure you look at the Humminbird 345cx & 385cxi

Good units for yak fishing. Be interested to see what other member's comments are.

Cheers,

fitz..

I like my lowrance Mark V, but I see Dick Smith are selling out the Garmin 100's for a ridiculous price at the moment, under $40 if you can find a store that still has one in stock.

It depends

What do you call cheap?

To some that may be a hundred bucks, to others it could be 500.

Whats your budget, what kayak do you have, and where do you want to fish.

Well ,if you can afford another 29 bucks then you can even go colour with a Garmin Echo 300.

http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Garmin-Echo-300c-Fishfinder.aspx?pid=292823#Description

Dick smith was quiting Black and White jobs of the echo 100 for 23.99. Yep that is not a typo.

Looks like BLA is quiting G'Bird 550 units for 159 bucks - this is a single beam 20 degree transducer

You can get a duel beam B/W Bird for 180 bucks.

Yep, Humminbird 550x are being cleared. Call your local Humminbird dealer to grab one before they run out at this crazy pricing...
