Title: RIP Jack Erskine
Post by: aussiebasser on July 17, 2012, 11:30:32 AM
I've just heard the sad news that Jack Erskine passed away last night.  He was attending Icast in the US with his good friend Johnny Morris from Bass Pro Shops and passed in his sleep.  Jack was an amazing member of the Australian fishing fraternity.  I had the pleasure of meeting him at Peter Faust Dam a few years ago.  My parents met him in the early '70's when Erskine and Fitch Tackle existed in Cairns.  My mother always said he was one of the nicest men she'd met.  Sincere condolences to Jack's family and friends from all at Sweetwater.  You will be missed mate.

Jack is a true pioneer of fishing not just in Australia but around the world. An intimate understanding of rod angles and their effects on fish fighting has seen his learnings/teachings go world wide & influence rod construction.
On reels, his knowlege is second to none. He had a way of pulling a reel apart & reworking it to bring out it's full potential. So much so he was a leading designer for the Penn stable and more...
Anglers world wide owe a dept of thanks to Jack's contributions.

While I only shared a boat with Jack a couple of times, those nights around a fire left me with the impression that his humble attitude, ready smile, contagious laugh and down to earth personality are as noteworthy as any line class title.

The world is poorer for his passing....

Condolences to Jack's family and close friends.

Very sad news. But at least he left an enduring legacy that the rest of us may still enjoy.

The world is a much richer place for him having being here. That fact alone is a testament to his knowledge and devotion to the sport which he passed on to generations of anglers RIP

I only heard the news a short time ago.
Condolences to his family.
I only dealt with Jack a few times via email purchasing his drag washers but he spoke to me and treated me as if he'd known me for years.

Hi, Daniel Erskine here, Jacks youngest son. Want to thank you all for the kind words said about my father and (although i already knew) i'm glad to hear the fishing community has great respect for him as displayed in this thread.  :youbeauty
