Title: REGARDING THOSE KNOTS
Post by: BG on April 13, 2011, 07:54:25 PM
Just a little more on those knots I mentioned below fellas.

I have been busting off a few leaders to see at what poundage they broke at and mono broke early as expected but, those that I had tied with Flurocarbon were great.

They wanted to pull or break at the hook end, so flurocarbon may handle a double overhand a little better.

Another thing I tried.  ( My eyesight is not as good as it used to be and I have trouble with knots. )

At the point where the twisted double finished I put a little piece of masking tape to stop it unwinding and just above that I whipped it for 5 mm with the same thread used for tying flys.

This is still under tension on the bench at this point,  tied this off and wet it down with a little superglue.

The end result is the finest knot ever and as strong as hell.

Just have to find a fish to test it now. A Toga or two will do.

Nothing like a bit of innovation Gordon, how do you reckon you'll go tieing that in the boat? As you know that's the tricky part. But  it does sound like you're close to the holy grail of knot tying; the ultimate knot.
