Macquarie Classic and Carp Muster- FISHING COMP

A huge fishing competition that will run the length of the Macquarie River from Burrendong to the Barwon River has been announced, and is due to be held on December 8th and 9th this year. Anglers will take to the water on their chosen piece of river in the chase for the RiverSmart "Cod of Origin" Cup, in the Orana Mutual Macquarie Fishing Classic and Carp Muster.
Competitors will need a digital camera to enter either a Murray Cod or Yellow belly in the catch and release competition, or can help rid the river of carp to also win a champion angler trophy.
Entrants will need to be at one of the 6 host venues to watch the briefing presentation at 7pm on the 7th of December, and collect their official comp measuring mat and ID tag.
Those wanting to enter can do so at the following host venues, including The Lion of Waterloo Wellington, The Mitchell Inn Geurie, The Garden Hotel Dubbo, The Courthouse Hotel Narromine, The Warren Golf Club and The Corinda Hotel.
A boat and motor will be given away by lucky draw of all those competing, with competitors not even having to catch a fish to have a chance at taking home the major prize. Entry is $30 for early birds before December 1st, or $40 thereafter, with an every man for himself structure putting town against town, and mate versus mate.
At the launch Orana Mutual was announced as the naming right sponsor for the event. 'This is a catch and release competition for Murray cod and Yellowbelly on a scale not seen before,' said Mr. Luck, Orana's Regional Manager. 'We literally will have people competing from below Burrendong Dam to the Barwon, with local tally rooms spread from Wellington to Carinda. Orana Mutual prides itself on being "at the heart of our community" and it's great to bring local people together to utilise one of our best resources in the region. We hope people get behind this concept and it will be great to see who really does have bragging rights. But really, it's about people getting out and enjoying the river".
Major Sponsors Orana Mutual kindly donated $10,000, whilst the Garden Hotel and the IWRA both wrote out cheques for $5,000 each. Dubbo Marine also contributed a boat, motor and trailer package to the tune of $5,000, with the CMA also contributing $3,000 to get the event off the ground.
