Knot responsible
« on: March 20, 2012, 09:23:05 PM »
I've been playing with knots again...anyway I thought the slim beauty might have some merit. I've been using an improved albright for a while but there's still a bit of hesitation at the lead guide. I've always found the Albright easy to tie and when it's done properly hasn't let me down. Now I'm only talking about lines 20lb plus and leader 30lb plus here. It's unlikely to be news to many but the Slim Beauty ends up as a tapered knot that exits the lead guide just a bit easier the the Albright. It also appears to "snug down" better on the heavier leader. Any comments would be very welcome.

I've always used the albright, from 6lb line to 100lb line. Never had a problem. I did learn the hard way to make sure the leader is not long enough for the knot to be on the reel, (so your thumb doesn't end up mince meat after a days casting).

Never bothered to try another knot.

I've been using some 60lb Flouro when we go away chasing heavy stuff.  I've found the Slim Beauty is the best knot for this.  The Slim Beauty puts the tag end where it should be, not sticking out to the side or towards the lure.

Got a link to one, did a search and ended up with knots with 3 tag ends, 2 to the side and 1 to the lure  :o

I use the albright. Actually found it easier to rebuild my rods with bigger guides than learn a new knot ::)

slim beauty all the way. use it on all my gear where single strand leaders are used, from from 12lb for sooties right up to 150lb for gt's and everything in between

i have 2 variations of tying the mainline, depending if i'm using a double or not. both quick and easy to tie, important on a rocking boat when the bite is hot. casts sweet and has never let me down

Was wondering about doubles. There's a couple of schools of thought about that. Some say that if the knot's properly tied and you use the right knot you don't need them, for most fishing up to Barra etc. Some say it only throws another complication into the process. There's a lot in favour of keeping it simple and doubles also bulk up the knot. Brett, I know you're an uncomplicated bloke. hope to catch up in May. Binder, you got a porkupine in the knot??
