Title: not all Boyne River Barra are huge ..... or is it just my lost mojo
Post by: dougout on April 05, 2011, 12:53:49 PM
picked-up 2 of these little tackers this morning hiding in that snag , launched at the hwy bridge and found these well up stream past the rail bridge.
I'll head back out latter this arvo ......... see if I can find a keeper.
Also saw a dead mullet on the river bank ( that's my size 11 croc. beside the monster ).

Well done Doug! Not all Barra in there are metre plus Barra, we saw plenty of small ones, you're just warming up for the bigger girls.

You haven't lost your Mojo! :youbeauty

Have you fished Miara or parts of the Kolan lately mate?

Cheers Dave

G/day Dougout I've now fished that section you mentioned a couple of times and only found 2Barra willing to eat both from the same snag and I suspect the same fish not sure on that though.
Some beautiful looking water but so far little results on barra,I did have a session on Tarpon on fly but I only had my 10wt with me so it spoiled it a bit would have loved to have my 6 or 8 wt they would have been more fun.
I'll be going back to do more searching though it looks too good not to.

Paul

I had a go above the railway yesturday and only managed a jack. No photos as it self released at the yak  :-\ . The water was still running strong up the end, so strong I couldn't get past the rapids.

thanks Brian, they were fun on the 10lb. baitcaster ( not pictured that is my 30lb. in the photos ) might be awhile before I get up there again, being from down at Bargara it's an over-nighter for me. Would be good to have a few days camp and a meet-and-greet-fishathon with a few of these guys up there one day though.  8)

thanks Dave. mate I hoping my mojo has return "at least somewhat". Prior to this Boyne session, I stayed at and fished in-around and out-of Burrum Heads for a week.........skunked-out big time, high-lite was one only (smallest I've seen ) 40cm spanish mac. ::)
Haven't fish Miara or the Kolan at all this year ....... floods then other stuff happening.

from the same snag and I suspect the same fish not sure on that though.

on-ya Paul, I had one other follow from that snag and the other snag just down stream from it ( in front of that little creek ) so I guess a few puppies hang-out there before venturing further a-field , heaps of small gar etc. around to keep their interest.
It sure is nice fishy-look'n water up there, with some interesting snags, drop-offs and swirling eddys etc. I can see why your heading back for further investigation/s. Tarpon on fly sounds like fun, wonder if there are any Milkfish about ( bread imitation fly  ??? )
