What Yak???
« on: October 07, 2010, 04:46:40 PM »
G'day All

I'm getting serious about buying my first kayak. I've been browsing and have come up with the conclusion that a fully decked out Prowler 4.7 would be the go for my needs. (and I can buy new locally)

I'm about 100kg and want to yak/fish amoungst rather large lizards(hopefully not though). I will also be using the yak in some of our saltwater estuaries in my area, (also with lizards). I'm thinking I'm bit of a gadget man so will probably be looking at fitting it out with battery, sounder, ice box and whatever else I can fit on it.

I wont have any real need for draging it over shallow sections of creeks etc. as most of the time I will be in ample water.

I don't think I want a electric motor, I more keen on the paddle.

I want it to have WOW! factor as well, to maybe encourage a few mates to get into it.

Am I on the right track or what????

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers
Jono

4.7 Prowler is a pretty good yak.  With your sort of Lizards in the water, I'd prefer my 18'6" Black Canoe.

Get a skinny little yak, mix it up with  big lizards and a WOW factor will be the last thing you will be worrying about. Double hookup will complete the picture. Especially if you foul hook one in the side.  :-X
Cheers John.

G'Day Jono.

The 4.7 Ultra is a boat you can seriously bling & it is actually a good boat to paddle & fish from. Noting that I am biased!!

Have you spoken with Tim at Farnborough? He's got just about every sort of kayak imaginable there. Was talking to him today, we're planning an open paddle day there shortly. Last time I was there I hit Waterpark Creek with him; pretty water. Recon there had to be Junglies, Barra, Jacks etc there but no time to fish. Doh!!! Maybe this next trip I'll get time. Am also going to head west to the Connors / Isaac Rivers & pin a few Sooties & Saratoga.

Good luck with whatever you get.

Fitzy..

Thanks for the replys so far.

Hey Fitzy

I had a yarn with Pete (Tim's offsider) from The Caves & I'm just waiting for a bit of spare time and I shall be going to visit Tim. He has the Prowler 4.7 in stock I believe. Can't wait.

I'd be keen on a paddle at Waterpark too. Where do you launch at Waterpark? at the wier?

Cheers
Jono

At the causeway, some fishy looking water there. But talk to Tim, he knows all of those creeks really well & can put you onto the best spots for access. There's even some white water up in the more remote country apparently.
