Title: Mingo Crossing / Paradise Dam
Post by: Bracey on February 17, 2012, 08:48:09 AM
G'day all,

I thought it was about time I cast another report as I've been here and there over the past couple of weeks. Unable to head west to visit Nath (Tropicaltrout) and other friends of Goondiwindi due to the resent floods, cabin fever had set in. I didn't really care whether I caught fish or not, so a road trip north was decided with Mingo Crossing and Lake Gregory on the list of places to visit in the couple of days I had left after taking 3 days of annual leave.

Mingo Crossing is an awesome place to visit, nice grassy camping grounds with very clean amenities including the BBQ areas that are under shelter and a boat ramp also situated at the grounds. Unfortunately the fishing wasn't too flash hoping for the odd Barra, Bass or Yella that could have been still left upstream of the Burnett R. after the floods of last year. If you are into catching Forktailed Catfish though this is the place for you, great fun on light gear and plenty of them. There were a few reports of some big Yella's caught there in the past couple of months from the camping grounds caretakers.

Now that the stocking group has the go ahead to stock Barra in Paradise Dam, in time this place will be an absolutely sensational fishery with plenty of structure for these fish dwell.

In my opinion it is a place well worth visiting, camping on the waters edge, moaring your boat at camp and just exploring this stretch of river with it's rocky outcrops and gorges upstream of the crossing.

Cheers Dave

There's some pretty looking water there Dave. I've not been upstream of the bridge, last time there with Aussiebasser we went from the bridge to the dam wall in about 15 minutes in his Stratos....the trees were a blur  :o

How far upstream did you go or can you go with the Dam being fairly full?

Fitz..
