More fingerlings for State dams

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
The Honourable John McVeigh

More fingerlings for State dams
Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister John McVeigh today announced $690,000 to re-stock Queensland dams with fingerlings.
Minister McVeigh said the funding would be distributed through grants as part of the Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme (SIPS).
“The SIPS provides a sustainable, world-class freshwater fishing option for recreational fishers,” Mr McVeigh said.
“Stocked Impounded waters such as dams need to be continually replenished as most stocked species will not reproduce.
“Most of the popular dams in Queensland are stocked each year with fingerlings and under the scheme, fishers pay a fee to fish at any of the 32 registered dams across Queensland.
“Three-quarters of funds from the sale of permits go to community stocking groups throughout Queensland to buy native fish fingerlings and for other activities aimed at enhancing the fishery.
“Species stocked include barramundi, golden perch, silver perch, Australian bass, Mary River cod, Murray River cod and saratoga.”
Each year, the sale of permits from the financial year is divided between all 32 dams on the scheme, based on angler’ preference and surface area.

I still don't know why NPD gets allocation when it's a no-go area (for boats) unless you pay $100 for the privilege.

Yeah, I still have a be in my bonnet about this arrangement, and no disrespect to the work PRFMA do, more Sunwater or Qwater or whoever the hell water owns it now.

So you do not have to pay for access to other dams?
At least PRFMA does not cream off 25% for admin. All monies raised go towards stocking apart from a small amount for insurance and maintaining the site.
The SIP monies are aprox 1/3 of the monies outlaid for stocking by the PRFMA.
 Cheers

You know the difference Ray.  The boating fee paid for Wivenhoe and Somerset does not go towards fish stocking at all and yet the North Pine Dam fee does. It is a double standard by SEQWater, and I'm sure it will stop when all the reviews are completed.

So when are they handing out this this 690k in funding he has announced?

Because the money gone to the dams for stocking already is the anglers own money, not his to announce as government funding, so he must be giving us another 690k.

Yes, I'm sure SEQ will find a way for that money to be diverted from stocking to their own pockets, perhaps claim its for upkeep of the site? Considering PRFMA even have to fill in the potholes in the access road........

Dale, how come you dont whinge about the Kilcoy Clubs fee for accessing the top of Somerset like you do the PRFMA's fee? At least the PRFMA fee goes on stocking.  Is it because Kilcoy's fee is only $60 a year on top of the SEQ water fee?

I don't need to pay an additional fee to access Somerset, I can travel all over the lake quite easily.  If you've read the questions, you'll see that kayak access will most likely be provided in the headwaters.  You can send a thank you note to Fitzy for that one, same as all the other waterways he's been instrumental in opening up.  Credit where it's due I believe!  Lets have North Pine opened the same as Wivenhoe.  You'll get a hell of a lot more ticks on the SIP applications.  The maintenance of the ramp and the road was always supposed to be a PRFMA obligation, although Boral helped out a hell of a lot at the beginning.  You forget I was one of the original Permit holders, number 153 from memory.  Now I just don't think it's worth the hassle of going through the whole ballot thing and being blessed with a permit.

I don't have an issue with either, except that I wish all these locations were open & free (yes a pipe dream). However I must note that the Kilcoy Fishing club lease does give members sole access of the whole upper reaches of the lake, where there is no other access to Lake Samsonvale via any other means to this area. I guess that is what many find difficult.

Also, the Kilcoy FC has had a delete on S&WFSA committee since the fish restocking began, helped out at many a fund raiser and fish release for some years. No donation for some years however.
