Weir pool level changes at Lock 9

River Murray water users and landholders are being advised to take into account changing water levels at Lock 9 weir pool.
The changes are a variation to the original program for the NSW Lock 9 weir trial that began in August.
From 18 November, the Lock 9 weir pool will be temporarily lowered below the full supply level for about one week. It will be lowered by 0.1m/day to around 0.3m to 0.4m below full supply level.
The pool will then be raised to the November target level of +0.15m above full supply level, and then return to the original trial program.
The lowering of the pool is to test how far the water levels can be lowered in summer to minimise impacts on local water users, and pumps supplying water to Lake Cullulleraine.
Over summer and autumn, Lock 9 weir pool will be lower than full supply level. It is expected to be drawn down to around 30 to 40cm below full supply level, subject to the results of this November trial.
The weir pool will be gradually raised back to full supply level by winter 2014.
The table below outlines the overall plan on a month-by-month basis. These are indicative water levels, therefore actual river operations may differ.
The MDBA will issue a revised flow advice if there are any significant changes to the plan, which will also be made available on the MDBA website
This trial is being undertaken in co-operation with the NSW Office of Water and Mallee Catchment Management Authority.
