Bandies,Bandies and more Bandies.
« on: November 21, 2015, 11:55:59 AM »
went to the tilapia cull day at Forest Lake this morning with Tai and Mark.

,It was a very well organized event with Brisbane Valley Anglers looking after the bait and tackle side of things,

FSAQ were there with their pest fish display.

Lions providing a free sausage sizzle plus lots of volunteers patrolling the lakeside collecting noxious fish and rubbish,

All I could catch was numerous barred grunter around 3 inches long plus one lonely tandan .

I packed it in around 10am when the heat started to get to me.

Apparently the tilapia were all around on the shady side of the lake which was a bit too far for my old legs.

Cheers

Ray

It's a shame you can't fish this lake more often.. I'd love to chase tilapia when my girlfriend gets over from Oklahoma next month.

aapparently you are not allowed to fish from the bank ( Council by law) You can legally fish from a yak/canoe but be prepared for flack fron locals and have arguement from security who will call police who will then find out that the lake is not a regulated water,
Some of the locals were even going around and trying to return barred grunter and tilapia to the water on the day of the event,
Cheers

Some people have no idea, do they?  :Clap)
Don't think it's worth the hassle to kayak it, if that's the case you describe.

Do you fish for tilapia much?

I have just sent email to Deedi asking for clarification and also sent email to Redlands Council re the ponds in MT cotton Park. There are quite a few councils that do not allow fishing in local ponds and waterways and it would be interesting to find out the reasons for this.
The only time I target tilapia is when the fishing is slow in North Pine dam and I do not wish to return home reporting a donut.
They actually fight very well for their size.
I will post the responses from my queries.
 Cheers
Ray

I know someone who regularly fishes there but I have written to both Deedi and BCC for an definitive answer. Deedi have referred me to council who I understand will refer me to Delfrin the developers who will refer me back to council so looks like musical no fishing signs.
It is hard to understand the policy of some councils about restricting fishing in their local waters especially when overflow events lead to the furthur spread of noxious species such as tilapia and carp .
 Cheers

Oh hey that's nice! I'm out at Dalby and I've never caught (in about a thousand) a coloured carp. But seem to see a lot caught in the Brisbane area. Interesting stuff.
