Lynne River (rusty water report)
« on: October 25, 2010, 10:31:44 PM »
I haven't been to the Lynne River in a few years, concentrating on other areas after the place seemed to go off the boil it once was. Young fella popped the question of "How 'bout it?" a month ago so a check of the tides and this weekend's spring tides looked the best. We usually do this trip on springs not for the fish but to get into the gorge up the end. I need a high above 6.2m to get my boat over the rock bar at its entrance.

The Lynne is about 65ks up the gulf from Wyndham, this time we did it in company of another boat but have often soloed the trip with the kids on board. Remember one day we rode the tide over the rock bar to have a swim just above the waterfall. A couple of grey nomads in their 50 footers had shot up there in their tenders as well. With the kids chucking bombies into the pool one of the nomads asked me where my ship was anchored up. I pointed to the dinghy and said that was it. We then bolted leaving them shaking their heads in disbelief.

The trick with small boats and anywhere in the gulf is to do everything before the wind comes up. So we go up in the morning, stay in the river whilst the sea breeze blows its gut out and head back early the next morning.

Now the fishing was pretty ordinary, in fact the poorest of all my saltwater trips this season. Barra had buggered off somewhere and even the fingermark etc were absent. Only got one Powertail and one bream all day, if that's an indication of how things were, you usually get a dozen of each mixed in with the quality fish. Here's some pics -

Barra substitutes, these things were better than nothing but hardly a target

This was a bit better, got about four off the one and only snag that had fish we could find

Finally one barra and the only one

Plenty of timber around

tide out

Tide in

The camping spot

The rock bar on high tide

One of the fast water spots in the gulf

This whirlpool was about a metre deep and four boat lengths wide

Great photo's again mate, that rock ledge camping spot is something special.

Dog grounded this trip hey.  Might be why the barra were hard to find/track....

Take it easy.

Cheers Lyndon

Top views from the camping spot Dick.  You leave dog at home and you can't find the Barra.  I think that tells us all something......
