If that is the log jam at Harpeng Road, I expect the fishing will change dramatically now.  It will also free people to paddle the full stretch without risking trespass laws by portaging around the area.

I have always used Harpeng Road to access that stretch for the canoe if they close it what are the other options.

Lowood bend and a long long paddle upstream, or the Spillway reserve and a long drag to the water, or Heart Attack Hill.

Lowood section of Brisbane River re-opens to water craft
QT - D Barry | 13th Jan 2015

Troy Bellingham, Rob Scammell and Bill Scammell work on clearing debris from a section of the Brisbane Valley River between Lowood and Wivenhoe Dam.

A SECTION of the Brisbane River from Lowood to Wivenhoe Dam is open again after Somerset Regional Council removed some large debris.

The council enlisted the help of contractors to remove debris, mainly logs, from the river allowing canoes, kayaks and small watercraft are to safely cross through the one kilometre-wide channel.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said contractors worked along the banks of the Brisbane River and on the water to clear the route.

"It was not an easy task as they had to use a boat to chop and remove snags, branches, roots and overhanging trees from the route," Cr Lehmann said.

"There are steep and tall banks either side of the river, where trees have fallen into the river and that was causing trouble for recreational kayakers."

The Mayor said some logs still remained in the river however there was now a safe channel for small watercraft to travel this particular section.

Wondering if anyone has paddled this section since the work was done ?

Seeing how clear it is for either a canoe or Hobie revo 13 for a social paddle from spillway common to twin bridges?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Paddled thru Cameron's Crossing from Hollywood to the Deep Hole yesterday morning.

Am pleased to see they just cleared a path, didn't remove all of the trees. Can get a traditional style kayak through with some sliding over just submerged logs, ducking under some others and doing a few sharp turns to get through.

Good luck getting a tinnie through it, I reckon you'll come to grief. If you're taking a peddle boat through you might want to fold your wings up to save them getting damaged or snagged up. There's good flow right through the whole section so hardly a need to paddle anyways.  I videod the trip through, will post it up if I get a chance later.

Cheers,

Thanks, I figured that I'd need to leave the flippers at home, sounds like an interesting paddle and some more bush pinstripes for the hull, just need some free time and convince the wife to pick me up downstream.

From Heart attack hill (Shines rd) to Twin bridges it's 14kms by river, but the last few kms as you approach twinnes you wouldn't bother fishing. It's gets a lot of fishing pressure. Think of the Lowood bend as the half way mark.

I generally agree mate. Tho I was taking an early morning paddle last week & saw a fellow land 2 x bass within 100m of Twin Bridges so you never know.  :OMG

I've caught some good fish between Beavers and Twinnies.  The whole river is worth fishing.  I'd say my worst would be from Lowood Bend up to the old log jam, always found that pretty barren
