Seqwater Recreation Review - Cooloolabin, Poona & Wappa Dams

It’s your water! Have your say…

Seqwater is undertaking the Recreation Review to explore the recreational opportunities in and around its lakes. The review will cover 23 Seqwater lakes grouped into 10 different areas.

The recreation review discussion papers which cover Cooloolabin and Wappa Dams were released today. These discussion papers cover all activities including picnicking, fishing, watercraft, trails, site access and a number of other activities. You can share your concerns or ideas on all activities by visiting www.yourseqwater.com.au to download the papers, register for workshops and take the online survey. Public consultation for Cooloolabin and Wappa Dams will close on 29 January 2013.

Poona Dam is the third dam in this group of lakes and an integral component of the water treatment process at Image Flat Water Treatment Plant. The dam’s catchment is very small and highly sensitive to external activities. As such, recreation access to Poona Dam cannot be considered by Seqwater during the recreation review. Please visit our website www.yourseqwater.com.au to download a copy of the Information Sheet outlining the reasons Poona Dam will not be included as part of the recreation review process.

Seqwater is responsible for providing a secure and reliable water supply to almost 3 million people across South-East Queensland and is the only metropolitan drinking water provider in Australia that manages ‘open’ catchments, allowing the community to enjoy lakes and catchment land for recreation, while ensuring quality bulk drinking water supply for South-East Queensland. Up to 2 million people a year visit Seqwater recreational facilities for anything from picnics, camping and fishing, to weddings and sporting events.

If you know of anyone else who might be interested in taking part in this recreation review please feel free to forward this information on.
