SEQ Water Review Moogerah.Maroon and Wyaralong.
« on: September 28, 2013, 07:56:12 PM »
I attended the second meeting today after unfortunately being unable to attend the first meeting a fortnight ago.
Once again interesting how many diverse groups utilize the facilities of the different dams and surrounds.

Maroon
Not much demand for change .
Seq water investigating another possible boat launching site on Burnett Creek Road.
Possible designated swimming area.
Strong opposition for any access fees.
Moogerah.
Possible alternate route to existing ramp to avoid having to travel through van park.
Possible introduction of 6kph areas to protect bird life and provide safe area for yaks etc.
Significant noise problem to be investigated.
Designated swimming area.
Opposition for access fees.
Wyaralong.

Designated swimming area.
Possible boat launch area half way along dam on the Beaudesert /Boonah road. This may be a difficult one due to the road being 100kph area and significant capital costs would be needed just to provide de acceleration lanes and turn off area plus the access road, car park and ramp itself.
Canoe/yak launch spot to be provided at western end. ( Easy to accomplish)
Demand for a rowing course on the dam.
Adjacent landholders and others very vocal about not allowing petrol powered craft on the dam.
The LAFMA ( Logan and Albert Stocking group) would like petrol powered access with limits of 6kph and 4 stroke allowed.
They spoke about the dam being 20ks long and the prime potential fishing areas being half way along the dam. With leccy only power these areas would be out of reach of most fishos.
Seq water said that on the current submissions that have been submitted it is split 50/50 on this subject.
Demand for dog on leash areas on all dams.
There was fair bit of discussion about user pays and access fees.
This will not be looked at till mid next year but SEQ water do not get any funding for recreational use of their dams and they will endeavor to recover their costs for providing and maintaining their public access areas.
This would mean that all users would be charged for access weather picnicking, bushwalking.horseriding or fishing.
What they will be evaluating if the costs to collect the fees will be higher than nthe funds raised.
I would strongly advocate if you already use these dams or may wish to use them in the future to complete the on line survey available at www.yourseqwater.com.au within the next 10 days.
If you have already done the survey and wish to make an addition just send an email to recreationreview@seqwater.com.au
Cheers
Ray

fishing ethics are the things that we do when we are unobserved by others!!
