Title: trout
Post by: joey1247 on October 27, 2012, 08:23:41 PM
How far south do u have to go to find trout? My friend at work said you could get them at gold coast hinterland. Do they live in areas with cooler climite like Tasmania mostly?

I've been to the A.C.T. as a kid pretty sure you can get them around the snowy river / dam.

Joey.
Seriously, Your mate from work wouldn't know sh!t from clay.....

You answered your own question, yes they prefer cooler climate but it's mainly because we don't allow pest fish past the border gate.  :walkplank Working so far for Redfin & Trout. Pity Carp can't read......

New England area is closest to Brisbane you will find sweet water trout.  Only trout up here are Coral Trout.  :tick

I might sound stupid but wading through some of the creeks around here (Gold coast hinterland) you often see 'trout' looking fish and after looking on the dip and wiki there could possibly be northern or Brooke trout

And the Tropidonophis mairii aren't fussy over which of these they will eat.  :)

For those less scientific, Elops is talking about the Mountain Galaxias and the Purple Spotted Gudgeon, while Novice is suggesting the Keelback Snake will eat either.

Pretty amazing sports fish that has a huge following down south.  Generates millions in income for tackle dealers and tourist operators.

agreed dale.  could sit around and chew the fat over the species both environmentally and on the aquaculture scene for hours with you.  theres a species starting with "t" that most if not all aquaculture operators have on their mind when the "Trout or Salmon" word comes up, that they wish could be approved.

anyway were off the topic if your near coffs harbour check out coopers creek.

Don't get me wrong, I place the blame for the loss of our Macquarie Perch and Trout Cod on the introduction of Trout and English Perch, but growing up, they were pretty much all I had.  I'm not one to judge yesterday's actions with today's morals.

Tilapia are more expensive here (Alberta, Canada) than wild caught Pink Salmon. In fact, it's the most expensive fish in the shops.
