Quite a few closed season exempt dams within an hour or so of oyu. Pick one of those until September.

If you bait fishing, live shrimp is the gun bait,  look for a drop off in around 15 to 20 foot of water near a point.

Lure fishing look for schools in the deeper water, use lipless cranks jigs etc to get down to them, or toss lures at the edges of weed beds, lilly pads or structure.

i would like to get into fishing some of the stocked dams , when u pay for 1 year permit is it 1 year from when u buy the permit or just till the end of this year? we went to sommerset dam couple weeks ago , it was 15$ for boat permit per day and 7$ fishing permit per day ,  how much is it for 1 year? i think i seen on site $36 per year , and this money helps , with the fish restocking program ,

A Stocked Impoundment Permit will cost you about $36 for a year.  Expires 12 months after purchase date.  75% of that money goes to the volunteer Stocking Groups to help restock native fish.  A boating permit for Somerset is $100 for a year.
