Angler’s Have 5,000 More Reasons to Smile
9 September 2014 • Media Release Uncategorized

Organisers of Mount Isa’s iconic Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic have this week announced another great reason for anglers to join in the competition in the form of a must be won $5,000 cash prize on the Mount Isa Water Board Mystery Weight Barra.

Made possible with the support of long-time partner the Mount Isa Water Board the $5,000 Mystery Weight Barra will add to the long line up of prizes up for grabs on the water at the Classic this year, including six senior and six junior heaviest species categories, an additional five mystery weight categories and the coveted senior and junior champion angler titles.

With prizes also up for grabs for simply nominating in the form of the junior and senior lucky nomination prizes anglers will share in thousands of dollars’ worth of cash, prizes and trophies including recognition on the perpetual trophies for anglers snagging the champion titles and heaviest barra and sooty grunter categories.

With the infamous Tagged Barra taking a hiatus in 2014 due to restrictions proposed by insurance companies relating to low water levels the Mount Isa Fish Stocking Group were determined to still have a significant cash prize up for grabs to help draw in competitors from all across the country; sentiments mirrored by the Mount Isa Water Board.

“The Water Board would have liked to see the Tagged Barra associated with the competition once again in 2014 but acknowledges the Fish Stocking Groups reluctance to place further restrictions on the competition in a year that has seen the group faced with adversity” said Greg Stevens, Chief Executive of the Mount Isa Water Board.

“Being able to place a must be won cash prize of $5,000 on the Mystery Weight Barramundi as the iconic and elite species out the Lake is a fitting alternative and will no doubt attract the anglers.”

If fishing isn’t your thing the 2014 Clancy Corporation Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic also boasts a host of on shore entertainment with prizes also up for grabs in the Buffs Club Beach Volleyball Comp, Commerce North West Dragon Boat Regatta, yabby races, casting competitions and the Brogden’s Furniture Court Lucky Gate prize for all visitors making a gold coin donation at the cattle grid entrance over the 2 days.

Nominations for the 2014 Clancy Corporation Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic are $30 for seniors and $10 juniors and available from Tool n Tackle one week out from the event, or at the nomination tent on site from 12noon Friday October 24th through to close of fishing 5pm Saturday October 25th.
