Title: Curious as to what line class you use for your bassing?
Post by: Nugget on October 08, 2011, 10:00:03 AM
Getting into the bass more and more lately they are so addictive.   I hear alot of different line classes thrown around and would like to hear what people are running.  I love my light gear and I throw around 5.5lb fireline exceed with generally a 6lb FC rock leader ( They really get the 2004 screaming when they hit!). I use this for everything from chasing river trevs/bream/flatties and now on bass!.

It doesn't really matter all that much.  I use everything from 4lb Fireline to 50lb Bionic depending on which outfit I pick up to fish with.  Leader is a different story, I prefer a 15lb leader, but most times it's just a mono leader.

these days I'm using platypus 100 8lb as my leader, was using 6lb, but have been losing a few horses so upgraded. Also 8lb will usually get your lure back on submerged grass, 6lb is iffy.

As Dale says, main line what ever happens to be on the spool of the rod I pick up. Ranges from 10lb to 50lb braid.

If I'm baitfishing with the kids its straight 10lb mono.

At the moment trying out 12lbs nano, seems to be working out fine, have got a few late 40cm models and its handled OK Only prob it does bite into itself as it says on the packet, so after getting a good fish or pulling a bit hard to free yourself from a snag just have to remember not to put to much into the next cast.

Hi,

6-12lb Braid or Fluro straight through with 8-14lb FC leader depending on the situation.

Dino I am having the same problem with Berkleys Fireline Tournament Exceed (The bright orange stuff)  Pretty frustrating actually  >:(  I go to put a cast back into a likely location only to be pulled up 3ft short of the mark!!

The amount of lures i change and lures i snap off in trees only to swim to get back leaves me only one option to use straight mono, well i cant be botherd with braid and leaders much anyway.

Ive been using shogun ice blue for years i think its ok but everyone has their own opinion usually 6lb for skinny creeks and 8lb for dams 10lb for toga.

4-6lb braid to 6-10lb leader.  Landed up to mid fifties on this.  I sometimes go to 15lb leader if in real nasty country or bycatch = big.

I think you've been lucky with the 6 lb leader so far Adam - those weedy edges like the one we had to grab with that palm frond yesterday hold on pretty well and I wouldn't pull too hard on them as I've broken 10 lb maxima doing it. In saying that you probably getting better action on those top water lures with that light stuff - still got to get some education on working those scum dogs :-\ PAT. PS Round two this arvo ?
