White shark spotted in the west (Queensland that is)
7 August 2012 - CSIRO

You may have seen A Fish Called Wanda, but have you met one? Well now you can. Wanda the white shark will be travelling to regional Queensland as part of CSIRO’s National Science Week event Oceans in the Outback.

Oceans in the Outback is bringing an ocean experience to the communities of Dalby, Roma, Charleville and Longreach.

Come along to try virtual diving with sharks and fish, learn about how pirates are impacting marine science, and see underwater videos of deep seabeds. The interactive exhibition is free and suitable for all ages – everyone is welcome.

"It will be fun and informative – and everyone will get 'tagged', just like me." Wanda the white shark

Wanda will also be there to showcase her satellite tag which will enable you to follow her trip through Queensland.

"As a white shark, I don't like to stay permanently in one location so I'm really excited about the Oceans in the Outback journey and showing regional communities the marine world," Wanda stated. "It will be fun and informative – and everyone will get 'tagged', just like me."

Ocean forecasts, marine critters, and ocean observation equipment are only some of the things you can learn about at the exhibition, and there will also be talks by scientists, give-aways, and videos about oceans and coastal science.

"For those like me who love social media, we'll also be hosting a social media event in Roma. You'll need to register for the gathering that will include dinner and a special video screening. Look out for more information and registration details on CSIRO's Facebook page or via Twitter".
