Enoggera and Gold Creek Reservoirs and Lake Manchester discussion papers released

South east Queensland residents will get to have their say on the future of recreation at Enoggera and Gold Creek Reservoirs and Lake Manchester, with discussion papers released last week.

Acting Water Supply Minister Andrew Cripps said the discussion papers for the Enoggera and Gold Creek Reservoirs and Lake Manchester were part of the most extensive review of recreational use at south east Queensland dams and catchments ever undertaken.

“The discussion papers outline current recreational activities, and invite the community to formally submit any ideas they might have for recreation on or around the lakes,” Mr Cripps said.

“It is important for the wider community – from visitors to the people who live close to the lakes – to have their say on how these precious resources are managed so that future generations can enjoy them.

“We’re inviting the community to have their say by coming along to public information sessions and workshops, and having a look at the information and online surveys on Seqwater’s website.”

Seqwater Chief Executive Officer Terri Benson said many of the freshwater lakes across the region were also drinking water storages and the review would need to balance different user goups.

“The diversity of possible recreation activities means we must ensure there are no adverse impacts on water quality or the immediate catchment around those dams,” Ms Benson said.

“The review will lead to the development of recreation management plans for the Enoggera and Gold Creek Reservoirs and Lake Manchester, detailing existing and potential activities, available facilities, management rules and guidelines.” Ms Benson said.

Details for the information sessions for Gold Creek Reservoir and Lake Manchester are:

·         2 November - Kenmore Village 9am to 11am

·         2 November - Great Western Super Centre, Keperra 11:30am - 1:00pm

Information for the recreation review of the Enoggera and Gold Creek Reservoirs and Lake Manchester, including online surveys, is available at www.yourseqwater.com.au (http://www.yourseqwater.com.au) (external site).

Following the information sessions on 2 November, additional community workshops will be held. Workshops details will be posted at www.yourseqwater.com.au (http://www.yourseqwater.com.au) (external site)
