Fishers are invited to attend an information evening to discuss local fishing issues and recent changes to Queensland’s freshwater fishing permit system.
Queensland Boating and Fishing Patrol (QBFP) district officer Coby Walker said  the Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme had changed on 1 July 2016.
“It’s important fishers are aware of the fishing rules and regulations before they wet a line, to ensure they’re doing the right thing and avoid any fines,” Mr Walker said.
“A number of other changes to fishing rules also came into effect in 2015, including the banning of set lines, trap marking requirements, restrictions on the use of funnel and round traps, marine baits in fresh waters, new size and possession limits and closed seasons.
“Many of the changes directly affect fishers in the Goondiwindi, Texas and Surat regions, particularly the expanded Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme and the extension of the Murray cod closed season.
“Given the high rates of freshwater fishing in the region, it’s important fishers come along to learn about the changes and have any questions or concerns they have answered.”
The information evenings are scheduled for:

21 September 2016 – Queensland Hotel (Marshall St, Goondiwindi) from 6:30pm
22 September 2016 – Stockman Hotel (High St, Texas) from 6.30pm
25 September 2016 – The New Royal Hotel (Burrowes St, Surat) from 6.00pm.
