Bathurst: Fishing for Natives in Winter
« on: July 12, 2015, 04:17:47 PM »
Hi gents!

Over the past few years I've been a semi-regular contributor on Sweetwater, as I love my natives fishing (check out some of my past posts).
I've been sent to Bathurst for August this year on dentistry placement, and intend to take my yak (and some gloves/beanie haha).

Does anyone on here fish there at all? I'd be keen to come join!
Any info on Chifley Dam or the Macquarie River too would be unreal. Feel free to message if you don't want to post on here.

I'm only down for 4 weeks so if I can squeeze a flick in on a day off here I'd owe you a carton!

Marty.

I don't know much about the native fishing around Bathurst, most anglers would find it more worth while to head out to Wyangala although you might find it hard during winter. Chifley is well know for its redfin, the bigger ones are supposed to bite during winter, could also try Lake Oberon or Carcoar for the redfin. Plenty of space and free camping out at Carcoar Dam if you can stand the cold.
Trout fishing been very disappointing since the drought broke, I wouldn't bother trying, their going to stock yearling rather than fry in the future to try and survive the carp and redfin.
