Weather Warnings - Flood Warning - Murray River upstream of Hume Weir Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Victoria
This flood warning covers both the Victorian and New South Wales parts of the Murray River catchment upstream of Lake Hume.
Minor Flood Warning for the Murray River upstream of Lake Hume Issued at 4:56 pm EDT on Monday 15 November 2010 by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office
During the weekend, rainfall totals of 30 to 90 mm were recorded in the Upper Murray catchment. No significant rainfall has been forecast for overnight Monday into Tuesday.
Weekend rainfall caused stream rises and minor flooding in the Upper Murray catchment. Upstream sites are now receding, however further rises are expected in the lower parts of the Upper Murray catchment with minor flooding expected around Jingellic during Tuesday.
Upstream of Jingellic Snowy Hydro advise that releases from Khancoban Storage are at 112 m3/s (Minor Flood Level 113 m3/s) and are expected to remain at this rate overnight Monday into Tuesday.
The Murray River at Biggara peaked at 1.95 metres (Minor Flood Level 2.0 metres) late Sunday evening. The river is currently at 1.58 metres and falling. High stream levels are expected to continue around and downstream of Biggara overnight Monday into Tuesday.
The Murray River at Bringenbrong peaked at 3.41 metres (Moderate Flood Level 3.4 metres) late Sunday evening. The river is currently at 2.83 metres (Minor Flood Level 3.0 metres) and falling. High stream levels are expected to continue around and downstream of Bringenbrong overnight Monday into Tuesday.
Jingellic The Murray River at Jingellic is currently at 3.23 metres (Minor Flood Level 4.0 metres) and rising slowly. The river is expected to exceed the minor flood level during Tuesday. Initial indications are that a peak above the minor flood level is likely late Tuesday into Wednesday.
In the interests of community safety the SES suggests following precautions: * Don't walk, ride or drive through floodwater, * Don't allow children to play in floodwater, * Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains, and * Keep well clear of fallen power lines
