Just hold on booking camp sites until this Friday. If you have already booked a site, you need to make a payment or deposit to definitely secure your camp site.
The triathlon have applied for exclusive use of the Logan facility on  the same weekend we have booked.
Issue should be resolved this Friday.

What is it with SEQWater and trying to get rid of our one weekend competition each year?

Yep, we're locked and loaded as per booking from last year.   :thumb  :tick

I'm told the Clarrie Hall invitational has been moved to the same weekend. A shame to see a conflicting date as I know a couple few people who regularly attend both............. can't be helped  :-\

Yep, I got the Invitation for the ABA comp in the mail yesterday.  Not sure why they'd want to do it on the same date.

NO !! sorry Binder you are wrong !!

In my stupidity, the ABA had only 2 weekends to pick from and our first priority was the major Sponsor whom puts up Big dollars to support our event and make it possible for us to raise money.  They had to work around 4 x 4 shows, camping shows and commitments so the rest is history.

The said sponsor came back with that date and we locked it in, hinde sight in a great thing and seems I should have looked harder.

Sorry if it clashes with this event but life will go on and wish Fitzy's comp all the best which I'm sure it will succeed again as it always does.

I firmly believe that the cross over of people that go to both of these events will matter not in the big picture for either event.

Again I am sorry for the Date clash and Fitzy had his date listed long ago.

But to many comps and not enough weekends, and to tell you the truth I'd rather not have this happen but everything was out of our control.

Regards Tony Payne

ABA President

Site bookings

Anyone who has booked a site and has not yet payed for it in full needs to do so before July 15 or you will lose your reservation. The whole of Capt Logans Camp had been reserved for the kayak convention / comp, however SEQWATER advises that after July 15 all sites will be released to the public.

As of Sept 1. 2013 both of the camping areas at Wivenhoe will be taken over by private enterprise. If Wivenhoe follows what happened at Somerset (difficult and demanding manager at tourist park), this could well be the last convention / comp held at this location.

So really Fitz you are saying that there could be a mix of competitors and general public staying at the camp that weekend? It would be in the best interests of the regulars to book a site asap before the 15 July  ?

Btw I have a who's camping where started over on the KFDU Forum

The grounds at Wivenhoe are looking fantastic at the moment.

You can't see it in the panorama picture attached, but apart from the one boat you can see there's a few boats sitting out there on a school just out in front of Logan's Inlet. The photo stitching cut the other boats out.

Mybe when competitors book, they ask for a late exit on the Sunday. I have book sites 92,93 & 94 at Lumley Hill, I am bring 8 mates to the comp this year. Thanks Daveo

Attached is a picture of the new kayak / canoe launch site below the dam.

With limited car parks at this location, I'm liaising with SEQWater for a designated parking area on the grass for competitors.

I've also put in a request for launching access very close to Platypus Cliff. Watch this space for updates....

It's much, much easier if entries are done before the day.  Leaving it until you get out there makes life much more difficult for the organisers and any catering people.

Typo fixed on the form. Insurance requirement is that they receive a copy of the insurance form for each person before they are covered. Therefore you cannot compete until they have a copy. That means we run all copies into their office on Thursday the 5th & have to scan any after than & email.

If you show up at 6:00am on Saturday morning & want to enter & go straight away, you will have to wait until we finish the briefing & attend other matters before we can scan your insurance & make a competitor card for you before you go fishing. Up to you, but I guess that would be annoying to you & add to the workload for us at the busiest time.

Also if you're not in the first 100 to enter, you miss out on a few gifts.

You can scan / email completed forms this week if that helps.

Cheers,

Update - the all new Old Town Predator 13 kayak will have it's Qld debut at the Wivenhoe Convention. This new kayak along with a huge range of other kayaks will be available for test paddle (for both competitors & public) over the weekend. This is a great opportunity to test drive a wide range of kayaks to find one that suits you.

Title: Reults - Wivenhoe Kayak Fishing Convention / Brisbane River Bass Opening Classic
Post by: Sweetwater on September 09, 2013, 10:16:17 PM
It wouldn't be a Wivenhoe Convention unless there was some sort of mistake.

The announced results - Lake
1st - Paul Deecke 173 points
2nd - Anna Deecke 167 points
3rd - Sel McLennan 132 points

Sel came & saw me after the presentations & asked if Steve Micallef should have been 3rd place, so we've checked it out. Taking Sel's word for it that I may have stuffed up, I asked if Sel would be catching up with Steve. He said he would so I gave him an extra Carlisle Paddle I had and asked if could give it to Steve for me.

Going back through the data base & photos, here's what we've found.
Steve entered the event twice to put him into the draw for both random draw kayaks. Entry numbers 68 & 69. This is great from an organisers perspective as it raises more $ from entry fees. A few enter twice & the $ is gratefully received.  :Clap)

Steve fished the lake for the whole weekend.

Day 1
Steve went out on the lake and while he missed getting a bass his best golden perch was 41cm long, he had mistakenly taken his river entry card with him, so he took the photos with this card. This is why his score went onto the incorrect entry number. I looked at the number of the card in the photo.

Day 2
Steve again fished the lake & took his correct entry card with him this time. He caught that huge 58cm bass & 39cm Golden Perch.

If his combined points from both days were totaled Steve would have been on 138 points. This would have put Steve into 3rd place overall.

After discussions and long thought it has been decided to award equal third to Steve & Sel. Acknowledging that Steve took the incorrect card on Saturday and Sel for being so thoughtful of his mate. Sel's prize & 3rd place stays, AND Steve is awarded equal 3rd where he would have been.

I've got to say that Steve did not say a thing, nor did he complain at all. However credit given where credit is due, he caught the fish fair & square so should be recognized.

Adjusted Results - Lake
1st - Paul Deecke
2nd - Anna Deecke
EQUAL 3rd - Steve Micallef AND Sel McLennan

Below are the pictures of Steve's scoring fish:
1st pic - Day 1 Golden Perch = 41cm
2nd pic - Day 2 Bass = 58cm
3rd pic - Day 2 Golden Perch = 39cm

I hope this has explained the situation effectively, however if anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Yes, it's the longest recorded in the comp, and definitely the fattest.  I think there was a 56 caught in the River last year or the year before.  Someone claimed a 60 once, however the photo didn't reflect that size.  You don't see many Bass that could wear a saddle.

Yes, it's the longest recorded in the comp, and definitely the fattest.  I think there was a 56 caught in the River last year or the year before.  Someone claimed a 60 once, however the photo didn't reflect that size.  You don't see many Bass that could wear a saddle.
or carry a stagecoach!!

Great weekend as always, fantastic support by the sponsers and competitors for the stocking group.
Well done to everyone involved  :youbeauty
That is a fatty Steve definitely 4kg and heavier than the current All Tackle World Record of 3.75 kg

You have to wonder just how much all these 60cm + fish that are supposedly being caught weigh.  Congratulations Steve.

Those 58/59 river fish you see on yellow brag mats would certainly have been weighed Dale, no record claims though.
581mm river fish weighed only 3.05kg

From memory, Steve may have been equal bass record holder for the event  at 56cm. That horse will take some beating for sure.  :Clap)

Good on ya Sel. That's terrific to see you looking out for Steve like that. Congratulations Steve. It's good to see you get your due credit, especially after such a horse. Many thanks to Gary, Dale and all those hard workers that make this such a great event. Thanks to all the sponsors, and in particular to Craig Charlton, who very quickly offered to install the new humminbird sounder in Ana's Kayak. He has already installed that exact model in my own kayak a few months ago. Craig and Gary have both been a big help to us in the past, and their efforts are greatly appreciated.

I've got to say that Steve did not say a thing, nor did he complain at all. However credit given where credit is due, he caught the fish fair & square so should be recognized.

Fitzy to me this is an example of the differences between a genuine angler, and some others who like to see their name in magazines quoting tackle brand and equipment to gain kudos.

Compliments to both Sel and Steve on their actions.

Well said Dodge, I couldn't agree more.  :Clap)

No unfortunately Dale. 56cm is my biggest and I have caught 3 at that size, just can't crack it.

Still bigger than mine Wayne.  Pam's first Wivenhoe fish was bigger than my biggest!

My PB is 59, and it was a long time ago now, but holy cow that fish of Steve's somehow seems more impressive than my memory of my PB.

I take it that's targeted at me, they "certainly" weren't weighed and I'm not sure why your so sure they were seeing as I don't carry scales in the yak and haven't weighed a Bass in 20 odd years .
For what it's worth that fish now holds the ANSA national "length" record.
While I'm here, AB it seems you've had second thoughts about the $100 for that fish and I'd hate for people to think I was taking the money and running so maybe you could donate it to stocking and at least someone will benefit.
P.S It seems I'm the only one that cops the mouth open, bent tail etc cr@p, just gotta be one a the boys I spose. Sorry Steve that's a top fish.

See ya and Happy fishin'

G'day Outcast.
I thought AB was talking about the bass on the yellow mat which had accidentally folded or something in this thread http://www.sweetwaterfishing.com.au/Forum/index.php/topic,4217.0.html (http://www.sweetwaterfishing.com.au/Forum/index.php/topic,4217.0.html)

BTW- @ everyone. The legal way to measure a bass is TOTAL LENGTH. This fork length caper is an ABT rule brought in after some Potsy bought in under sized bass; it gives them a little bit of room to move so they don't cop a flogging over under sized fish. You wouldn't measure your Johnson that way would you?

I noted a couple of people at Wivenhoe comp scored themselves at fork length, I changed their scores to the correct length....

I'm not sure what happened to your order, but I have placed it again, details messaged to you.
I wasn't referring to your fish, I was referring to the fish I see each week on Facebook being held by people with very fat fingers, and the one on the ANSA mat last year that was only 70mm short!  As I said when your fish was submitted, it is the longest fish I've seen on a measuring mat.  Congratulations on the ANSA record.

No not targeted specifically at you Steve a lot of people have ANSA mats got one myself. An assumption made by me as weighing is common practice by those that use them for which I apologise. Congratulations on the TL record it is the longest Bass on an accurate measure thus far and IMHO the standout in the list of multiple species you have recorded.

cheers,
Steve

AB I wasn't referring to anything you said it was elops's quote and I guess I'm a little over protective of Mine and ANSAs reputations, there may well be others using ANSA mats but I don't recall seeing to many pics with 58-59cm Bass on them and why single out "yellow" mats. Elops I know your a good bloke and didn't mean anything by it I just need to make sure no one else gets the wrong idea after all that post was pointed out to me by a mate who immediately thought it referred to me.
And just to clear the air a bit, I've weighed 1 Bass in 30 years of ANSA and that was weighed in a net (as all my weighed fish are), this is why I won't claim weight records, I have Boga grips but I would never contemplate hanging a fish off them for weighing, as far as I'm concerned they should be purely used for releasing fish with teeth but that is my opinion and I usually keep these to myself for fear of offending someone, I know as the hair gets greyer the fuse gets shorter but I'd rather whinge and be hated than have people think I'd even contemplate killing or weighing a Bass or any other fish for that matter just because it's a record.

Happy Fishin'
