Title: New to Gladstone
Post by: Reef Prince on April 07, 2012, 11:33:54 AM
Gday,

Just introducing myself. I am new to Gladstone region, moved up due to work.

I am totally new to freshwater fishing, barra, and all that. Haven't had a chance to explore eyt, but plan to do some of that afetr Easter, mainly weekends. Boyne River, Lake Callemondah, Awoonga etc. Thats the only 3 names I know. I am purely land based, and I guess  it will take me a while to get used to lures and baits fir freshwater fishing, having never done it before.

Hope to see some of you round the waters, if you see a guy who looks totally lost trying tio catch a barra, that would be me,.....

Cheers

Mike

Good work Mike, welcome to the Sweetwater. You might think about chasing up a fishing club up there, it's one way of getting to work out what's what. I'm sure thare's someone on the is site will be able to point you in the right direction.
Cheers,
JD

Cheers mate, will do that after Easter. I have no clue what so ever about what lures etc to use for Barra or Freshwater fish, so I will keep experimenting till I find some that work. That's what it's about, experiment, change tackle till you find what works, thats half the fun of fishing.

Hi Mike Welcome to Sweetwater.

Tackrat is right.   Join the local fishing club to meet some good blokes & gals.
I've sent an email to a bloke to find out some details, when he gets back to me i'll give ya a hoy mate.

You could start throwing some lures around the hot water outlet, Calliope bridge and pikes crossing for a starters.

Good Luck.  Happy Easter.
Cheers Lyndon.

Pikes  crossing is producing fish every evening.  I met sweetwater member pearcy up here yesterday  he's got about 6 fish on two days 5 of them land based and one from his new old town pack angler canoe.  We should have left the boat at home and just brought the yaks

Hi Mike,

The club is Gladstone Sportfishing Association.

They meet every last monday of the month at 6:30pm at the VMR building right next to the Auckland creek boat ramp.

Good luck.

Cheers Lyndon.
