Baroon Pocket - found a few.
« on: January 02, 2012, 11:23:42 AM »
Took Daughter up with me this morning, latish start as the bribe required was hash brown breakfast from Macca's and they were a bit swamped, looked like only 2 staff on deck. Got on the water by 6:30, did the shrimp pots, got enough fresh ones, so let the ones from the other day go in a likely looking weed patch. Still not a great deal of size in them.

Anchored up in a likely spot, tried a bit shallower this time around.  Managed 4 bass boated, one good one lost when daughters 10lb leader broke in the middle, was a fresh leader to. Spool getting a bit old so chucked it when I got home.

No great length, but the fish were extremely fat. (Forgive the creative camera work, thats what happens when you give daughter the camera)

Nice report mate.  :thumbsup

I recon with this unusually cool summer we're having in SEQ, that the bass have fallen back into autumn/winter mode and are feeding more than mormal to put on weight. I know the bass in the river over my way are still going hard where I would have thought they'd be into sulk mode by now....

Yep all on live shrimp. Photo of bucket is the size of the shrimp I have been getting there, those were the ones I thought big enough to use for bait out of my 4 traps. Threw about twice that number back as they were to small.

Was doubling up on those towards the end, the bass were very timid in the bites and were just slurping them off the hook.

I have not caught a bass on lure there in a long time. Local who wheels his yak down says he has until recently been getting them on red lures. Probably be giving it a go tomorrow on lures, if for no other reason than just for the casting practice and tranquility of not having any of the kids in the boat.
