With the rivers and creeks turned to poo with the rain out come the stanley knife and here's the result. I haven't named it yet but as I did a number on my thumb with the new blade I think Blood is going to feature - Blood Nut ? Blood Lust ? Bloody Gold ? Bloddy ell ? Cheers Pat

The lure awaits it's final epoxy coats to add weight and strengthen it but the rain/humidity wasn't ideal so waiting for a better day. The lure is carved and sanded out of balsa. The tow ring and hook eyes twisted 1mm SSteel game wire twisted to 25 mm lengths and epoxied in. The bib is cut out of a polycarb placemat and epoxied in. The paint job is just hand painted with enamel spray cans - probably at least ten coats of gold and black and three for the red chin. I have given the lure about ten coats of clear enamel and will finish it with epoxy. I'm aiming at a diving depth of around 750 mm to 1 metre. Cheers Pat.

Dont mean to be the prophet of doom Pat, but you should cut a slot in the bottom and make the tow eye and hook eyes one piece then epoxy it in.
A mate of mine used to use your system, nice lures but eventually..........

Cheers Steve I'd considered actually making up the wire set up first and fixing it internally to identical pieces of balsa then shape it so the wire one piece.May make shaping a bit harder but balsa being soft shouldn't be a problem. The first one I made stood up to the punishment of a 50 cm Mary River Cod and a 40+ bass on its first trial run so hopefully this will too. I am carving hardwood as well but just takes a bit more time and experimenting till I find the right timber. Thanks for the comment Pat.

Nice work Pat,
the majority of timber lures made by even the top makers are not through wire....... but done like you are doing, usually using a tougher timber though............balsa can be a bit soft, easy to use but not so much long lasting, and towpoints can pull after time....Along time though!
That lure looks like its going to do the job on the locals....well done.
Ive got a fair bit of beech and red cedar spare when your passing
