New study seeks your help to improve opportunities for recreational fishers to get involved in fisheries management and science

Take part in a 15-20 minute survey and go into a draw to win one of five $100 gift vouchers

Have you ever wanted to have a say about fisheries, or get involved in helping to improve fisheries management through doing things like collecting data? Or have you gotten involved and had some good or bad experiences?

A new study is looking at how to improve opportunities for recreational fishers to get involved in the management of recreational fishing. Getting involved can mean anything from talking to a local representative of a recreational fishing organisation, through to collecting data that helps improve knowledge of fisheries science, or being part of a fisheries management committee.

As part of the study, anyone interested in recreational fishing is invited to complete the ‘getting involved in fisheries management and science’ survey, which you can complete by going to http://canberra.az1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_24X4pjyKFpVcyXj

The researchers invite all people to take part, including fishers, fisheries managers, and others with an interest in fishing and fisheries. You don’t have to have had any involvement in fisheries management or science to take part.

The survey usually takes 15-20 minutes to complete. If you’ve had a lot of involvement in fisheries management processes in the past it may take up to 30 minutes. All participants who complete the survey have the opportunity to enter a prize draw for a chance to win one of 5 gift vouchers worth $100 each.

The survey, being conducted by researchers from the University of Canberra, is open until May 4th, 2014. If you need any help with the survey, or would like to have a paper copy of it posted to you instead of doing it online, please call the researchers on 1800 981 499. More information on the study is provided in the 'Information sheet - getting involved' document (follow this link: https://canberra.az1.qualtrics.com/CP/File.php?F=F_41R3xDJVpZYFzp3

The survey is funded by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation and the Department of Primary Industries and Regions South Australia.

Please forward this email to people who may be interested in participating
