Dumb question about bass
« on: October 07, 2010, 07:10:55 PM »
Excuse my lack of knowledge here team.

How far north on the East Coast can one expect to catch a Bass?

Is there any around Central QLD?

No such thing as a dumb question mate.
Tht natural range of Australian Bass is Coastal rivers and streams along the Eastern seaboard from Tin Can Bay in Queensland, south through New South Wales and into eastern Victoria.  Not recorded west of Wilson's Promontory.
They are stocked into Cania, Wuruma, Monduran and maybe other waters further north and would therefore probably exist in the downstream areas of these dams.

Basser nailed it.  :thumbsup So the Kolan River (Lake Monduran) north of Bundaberg is about it according to officaldom. Before restocking the Noosa River was generally said to be about it.

But you never know.... One sweetwater member caught one in a creek near Tenterfield not long back.  :OMG A stuff up or the MSG at work?

Fitz..

You'll never know where they will be found.

I know it's not as north, but I can vividly remember reading a year or so back on Sweetwater that a Bass that was tagged in Lake Samsonvale was caught 33km from the lake in Moreton Bay years after it was originally tagged.

A member of the Pine Rivers stocking group may be able to verify and elaborate.

Cheers Dave
