A new carp hunting vessel speeds up the carp capturing process

The Inland Fisheries Service recently took delivery of a new custom designed shark cat, IFS9.   Purpose built by Midnite Marine in Moonah, the net servicing design has the gill net run down the centre of the boat and out the back of the net chute.  This allows large amounts (1km +) of gill net to be checked without having to pull them into the boat by hand, reducing the amount of physical handling and speeding up the overall carp capture process.

Now staff do not have to pull the net to check it, the boat is able to either run along the gill net taking all of the weight and strain, or pull it onboard using the hydraulic net reel.  The result is that the Carp Management team can now simply remove any fish from the gill net as they appear.
