Bremer River-Coalfalls/Brassall
« on: April 05, 2012, 08:29:36 PM »
Yes, StevenM , there are plenty of Bass in the Bremer.

Launched from the canoe trail off Gladstone rd and headed upstream. Didn't have a lot of time, launched just after 4pm and went through to 6ish. Flicked spinnerbaits in 3/8 and 1/2oz and the wife also used a small hardbody(in fluro pink!!!!).
The water clarity was very good.

My wife landed six Bass, two of which were off the pink hardbody, and I landed nine. Most fish came off the larger snags but also a few from the middle of the river.

Cheers,
Dave.

I didn't take the sounder, but I dropped the anchor a couple of times. I reckon it varies between 2-4metres from the short section we did.

Awesome !!! I don't think we cracked one over 40 yesterday.  :Clap)

How nice of the Ipswich city council to have canoe trail infrastructure in place for the bass fishos :)

I know right?
haha we were stoked to see this place, especially to have it right on our doorstep.
I think most of ours were around that 40 mark, 2 under and the rest either right on or over! Either way for their size they fought like demons!

We only managed a couple of little guys, 20cm or so  :-[   Go easy on us we're new to this skinny water stuff  ;D  ;D
By the time we got on the water it was about 11am, and we didn't know whether anything was going to be biting during the middle of the day.
We went up as far as the railway bridge, cast spinnerbaits and a chatterbait, and a few different hard bodies under anything that looked like a snag, caught a few stumps and rocks and trees, but no takers till about 3pm.
Then there were a few rings starting to show up on the surface, and the couple of little fellas bit, but it stopped as quickly as it started.
We left at about 5pm, Jo caught a couple of good sized catfish on some prawns in front of the ramp, but that was the only other action.
Still, there's worse ways to spend an afternoon  :)

What sort of depth in the river there Dave?

We had the sounder on.
Over the afternoon the water level dropped by about half a meter, going by the marks on the bank
Just in front of the ramp is 3 meters or so deep, with shallow rocks on the other side.
Up stream is mostly 2 meters or so deep until you are nearly in sight of the railway bridge, from there it's only 1 meter or so.
There are shallow rocks everywhere.

And look out for the old tv set submerged at the end of it, probably not the best thing to stand on  :thumbsup
